Dermabond Advance is a sterile topical skin adhesive formulated with 2-octyl cyanoacrylate, a medical-grade surgical glue designed to close and reinforce skin edges of surgical incisions and clean lacerations by forming a strong, flexible bond across the wound surface. It is intended for topical use only and should be applied over thoroughly approximated skin edges after standard closure techniques (e.g., sutures) to help maintain wound integrity during the critical early healing period.
When applied in a single continuous layer using its specially designed applicator, Dermabond Advance rapidly polymerizes into a protective film that holds wound edges together and helps create a microbial barrier, offering protection against many common pathogens for the first days after surgery. In ex-vivo studies, adding Dermabond Advance increased closure strength compared to sutures alone.
The adhesive is particularly useful in surgeries where cosmetic outcome, reduced need for suture removal, and enhanced barrier protection are priorities.
